Positivity and fibromyalgia!

I am going to need those quotes,  early November on a Sunday I woke in Agony.  The pain in my arm was unbelievable.  I was given painkillers by the doctor but even so I had no sleep for a week. I got signed off work for two weeks and I got referred to physio and had traction.  I paid for a few massages which helped however, I then had hip pain too, leg pain, back pain, buttock pain ankle pain.  I got tested for arthritis, it's not that.  I got my results on 20 December but my arm pain felt a bit better so I decided to leave it until after Christmas.  However, the arm pain came back with a vengeance and being in pain on 25 and 26 December, I called my G.P who told me he thought I had fibromyalgia and was referring  me to a rheumatologist urgently,  he did  and asked I be seen quickly.

My appointment is on 28 February and I cried that I have to wait so long. I was told I can call daily to see if there are any cancellations.  I cannot wait I have terrible trouble coping at work, I mean I can cope but going up the stairs is not easy and it's hard being in pain at all.

Luckily I have healthcare cover with my employment so I am going to look into that on Monday.  I cannot believe that if I hadn't I would have to endure this pain for a further two months!

I would be ever so grateful for any information on this illness.  I appreciate I haven't got a formal diagnosis but I ache all over and have a burning pain in my arms, legs and hip.  I am not asking for medical advice just any ideas of how I can cope with this problem on a practical basis please.

  1. My sister, my mother-in-law and a very close friend have this condition at varying levels. It sounds as if yours has come with a vengeance. You probably don't want to hear this but rest is very important. Diet will help in the medium term too. Sending lots of love and best wishes. Jx

  2. Welcome to the world of fibro.
You seem to have been lucky with your doctor, lots of them don't really know fibro.
Best advice I can give you is to be kind to yourself. There is information and support out there but don't expect too much from the NHS.
    Good luck with your appointment
